GUEST BLOGGER LEANNA JACQUES ON CHANGING SEASONS

TUNING IN TO SEASONAL SHIFTS
.
.
As the seasons change, there is created an opportunity to look within and reflect on the dynamism of nature. Each season presents a new dominant energy that affects the state of the physical body and mind. Pitta elements of fire and water are beginning to decline and the Vata elements of ether and air begin to build, and as our microbiome shifts and adjusts to the new season, eating local, in season produce can best support this change. If we ignore the rhythms of the earth in the way we nourish ourselves, our digestive strength becomes weaker. Fall is the time to align our bodies by eating what the harvest presents- fresh vine ripened vegetables and fruits are easy for our bodies to digest and assimilate. Before jumping into the warming foods of winter, allow your body to clear of accumulated summer heat that can create dryness and dehydration if this shift is ignored. The early fall harvest is the perfect medicine as it helps the body expel leftover heat with bitter and astringent foods such as cranberries, dark leafy greens, apples, and pumpkins. Embrace the bounty of the season and let your digestive system build strength before moving to the denser foods that nature provides throughout the winter.
