Oil cleansing is an ancient self care practice, traditionally used to keep the skin and microbiome healthy and intact. Even today, I believe oil cleansing is still superior to soap based cleansers because not only does the oil cleanse the skin and remove dirt, toxins, and bacteria in a gentle way, it also help to balance all skin types. Oils can exfoliate and enrich the skin with vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. While depending on the oils you use for cleansing you can also benefit from the anti-inflammatory and grounding qualities of the oils. For face cleansing I recommend Bay of Rainbows, and for body cleansing I recommend Sea of Tranquility or a high quality sesame oil.

How to oil cleanse face

  3. Wipe off with a lukewarm cloth.

How to oil cleanse body

  1. Set an intention to connect deeper with your body as you lovingly nourish and cleanse it with oil and water.

  2. Massage oil into your entire body, beginning at your extremities and working toward the middle of your body. Use long strokes on the limbs and circular strokes on the joints.

  3. Massage the abdomen and chest in broad, circular motions. On the abdomen, follow the path of the large intestine, massaging clockwise.

  4. Massaging with a light slow touch working the oil deep into the skin.

  5. Follow with a warm bath or shower to allow the oil to further penetrate the tissues and cleanse the skin. Minimize the use of soap, and use only where needed.
