SHOP SOUNDS
At Suu Kuu, we are intentional about our formulas, our ingredients, our partnerships with other businesses, and about the way that we perform our tasks. Being intimately connected to the plants is at the core of what we do, and that kind of close relationship that we cultivate with the plants extends outward to the wide variety of operations within our business. We aim to create an environment charged with the energetics of healing and peacefulness, and with the awareness that we are making products intended to restore and support.
Guiding the environmental energetics through sound is a standard practice at Suu Kuu. Whether we are on the production floor or in the office shipping your orders, we play music, selected to align with the intentions of our formulas, and the hope that you experience an improved quality of life. We have referred to our products as "high vibrational" in the past. For us this means the vibrancy and power of our ingredients, coming from our direct connection with our herb farm and distillery, but also quite literally, it means that the products are affected by sound vibrations and vibrational energy.
We wanted to share a few of the staples that have been present in the journey from farm to bottle to your home. Click on the image to listen on youtube.
Kankyō Ongaku, Japanese Ambient,Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990.
You can find this comp on Light In The Attic Records, an amazing label out of Seattle with a rich catalog of countless classics. Their releases are always among my very favorites, and the ambient/new age releases are all gems. Check out I Am The Center: Private Issue New Age Music in America 1950-1990 as a counterpart to Kankyō Ongaku and (The Microcosm) Visionary Music of Continental Europe 1970-1986.
Swami Kriya Ramananda, Song of the Golden Lotus, 1978.
From the liner notes:
"...Ramananda composes enrapturing structures of repolarizing sound energies, designed to help neutralize some of the stress and strain of modern living; and on a deep level to internalize, uplift and inspire. This album was created as an inspirational adjunct for those on the path..."
Don Slepian, The Sea of Bliss, 1983.
One of the most remarkable cassette tapes ever released. Numero Group has released 3 Slepian tapes on vinyl, if you don't already have the rare cassettes.
Bitchin Bajas, Bajas Fresh 2017.
This recent Drag City release scored an 8.0 on Pitchfork for good reason. Super long, evolving loops for deep journeying, with a restorative energy great for the practice of making.
Yialmelic Frequencies, Zjumk, 2017.
From Bandcamp: "Yialmelic Frequencies is the therapeutic instrumental music from Starseed Diva Dompé channeled from her home planet Yialmel. In her role on Yialmel, she is a guardian of the Infinite Love Source and creator of Resonant Frequency Sculptures, similar to her role of manipulating frequency on earth in the form of sound."
Hiroshi Yoshimura, Green, 1986.
One of Japan's leaders of New Age sound, Yoshimura is perhaps most well known for Music for Nine Postcards. Green is an obvious choice though, when working with whole plants. It's wonderful!
We hope that by introducing these sounds and giving a little more context to our process, Suu Kuu users can more fully experience the depth and intentionality of our labour of love. Please comment below with any recommendations of your favorite healing sounds.
